Dwen Castle

It is the remains of an old castle situated to the Wets of Salahaddin Resort, 25km from the Center of the City of Erbil. It was constructed in the period of Shadi Bin Marwan, leader of the Rwandian tribe, ancestors of the famous Ayyubide commander Salahaddin. As a result of conflicts between the Rwandians and the Suljukians and the battles that went with them, the castle was destroyed and Najmeddin Ayub, father of Salahaddin immigrated to the castle of Tikrit, where he was named Governor by the Governor of Baghdad.
