Erbil: Conference on Community Participation to Reduce Illegal Migration Held
On Monday, July 13, 2026, a conference titled "Community Participation to Reduce Illegal Migration from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to the United Kingdom and France" was held in Erbil.
The event was attended by Rebar Ahmed, Minister of Interior of the Kurdistan Regional Government; Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil; Safeen Dizayee, Head of the Department of Foreign Relations; Fallah Hassan, Head of the Department of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs); Dr. Hemin Mirani, Director General of the Ministry of Interior’s Diwan; and Andrew Beasley, the British Consul in Erbil, alongside various directors general, diplomats, and officials.
During the conference, participants highlighted the importance of cooperation between government institutions, NGOs, and international partners to address the root causes of illegal migration and raise public awareness.
It was further noted that the project aims to mitigate the risks of illegal migration, protect the lives of young people, and develop viable living and employment opportunities within the Kurdistan Region. It also seeks to strengthen community involvement in decision-making and in addressing this phenomenon.
In conclusion, the participants emphasized that continued cooperation and coordination among all relevant parties are the fundamental pillars for the success of any effort to reduce illegal migration and create a better future for all segments of society in the Kurdistan Region.
