Governor of Erbil Receives Chief of UNICEF's Field Office in Kurdistan Region
Today, Thursday, July 23, 2026, Omed Khoshnaw, the Governor of Erbil, received Peta Barns, Chief of Field Office - UNICEF Iraq in the Kurdistan Region, at the governorate office.
During the meeting, several joint projects and the development of service sectors were discussed. Both sides emphasized the importance of continued joint cooperation and reviewed the organization’s humanitarian programs.
They also highlighted the situation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees within the borders of Erbil Governorate, stressing the need for increased coordination to further serve the humanitarian and service sectors.
In another part of the meeting, the Governor of Erbil expressed his appreciation for UNICEF’s humanitarian work and activities.
He called on the organization to increase the level of cooperation and assistance provided to the Erbil Governorate, expressing the full readiness of the governorate’s institutions to provide all necessary facilities and support to ensure the success of the organization’s work and projects.
For her part, the Head of the UNICEF Office in the Kurdistan Region praised the Erbil Governorate’s continuous cooperation and coordination in ensuring the success of their operations. She reaffirmed that the organization would continue to support service sectors and strive to expand the scope of their assistance to the camps and various areas across Erbil.
