Erbil...... The closing ceremony of the national project for "(Disaster Risk Management in the Kurdistan Region)" was held

On Tuesday evening, July 28, 2026, in the presence of Rebar Ahmed, Minister of Interior of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG); Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil; Safeen Dizayee, Head of the KRG Department of Foreign Relations; Yann Braem, Consul General of France in Erbil; the European Union Representative in the Kurdistan Region; Srwa Rasul, General Manager of the Joint Crisis Coordination Center (JCC) at the KRG Ministry of Interior; along with a large number of diplomats, representatives of organizations, and other governmental and administrative officials, the closing ceremony of the national project for "(Disaster Risk Management in the Kurdistan Region)" was held atop the historic Erbil Citadel.
 

This strategic project, implemented by the Joint Crisis Coordination Center at the KRG Ministry of Interior in partnership with the Consulate General of France, aimed to formulate advance planning to cope with climate change, develop the capacity of emergency response teams such as civil defense, and provide advanced early warning systems to minimize casualties and material damage during natural disasters.

During the ceremony, the strategic importance of such projects in protecting citizens was emphasized, and gratitude was expressed for the continued support of France and its Consulate General in developing various sectors.
It was also noted that the capital, Erbil, has always been a pioneer in welcoming projects of this nature that directly serve the safety infrastructure and the protection of citizens, particularly in areas at risk of natural disasters.
 

In his speech, Rebar Ahmed, Minister of Interior of the Kurdistan Regional Government, reiterated that the historic and strong friendly relations between France and the KRG are not limited to the framework of political, military, and humanitarian cooperation.
 

Today, they have also become a successful model of international partnership and cooperation in the fields of civil protection, crisis management, and disaster response.
The Minister of Interior spoke about the vision of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani regarding importing advanced global expertise and continuously expanding international relations in a way that has clear, tangible impacts, noting that they highly value the file of international coordination.
 

For his part, the Consul General of France in Erbil praised the partnership and historic friendship between the French people and the Kurdistan Region, reaffirming that his country will continue to provide humanitarian and technical assistance to KRG institutions to consolidate stability and sustainable development.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of honorary awards to the supervisors and successful contributors of the project.
