Governor of Erbil Receives Consul General of South Korea
Today, Tuesday, August 4, 2026, Omed Khoshnaw, the Governor of Erbil, accompanied by Hemin Qadir, the Deputy Governor, received Eoon-Gyo Shim, the South Korean Consul General in Erbil, at the governorate office.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed several important issues of mutual interest and emphasized the long-standing history of friendship between the Kurdish and South Korean people.
The Governor of Erbil welcomed the Consul General and congratulated him on assuming his new role in Erbil, wishing him success in his duties.
He expressed a desire to strengthen the foundations of friendship and to transfer South Korea’s successful experiences to Erbil and the Kurdistan Region.
Furthermore, the Governor praised the role of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in implementing development and service projects in the region and highlighted the provision of facilities and opportunities for Korean investors and companies in the capital.
For his part, the South Korean Consul General thanked the Governor for the warm reception and praised the stability, reconstruction, and rapid progress taking place in Erbil. He expressed his country's readiness to continue supporting the development process and to further strengthen diplomatic and cultural relations with the Kurdistan Region.
