Plock… Erbil City Delegation Exchanges Cultural and Artistic Relations
On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, a delegation from Erbil Governorate, led by Sirwan Osman, Director General of Arts and Culture of Erbil, and including Sabir Hussein, Director of Media for Erbil Governorate, Himdad Lashkari, Director of the Erbil Folk Arts Troupe, and Dr. Raid, the delegation’s advisor visited the city of Plock at the invitation of the city's Mayor, Andrzej Nowakowski.
During the visit, the delegation held a special meeting with the Mayor of Płock and toured several historical and religious sites, sports facilities, art galleries, and cultural centers throughout the city.
During the meeting, the Mayor of Plock warmly welcomed the Erbil delegation and emphasized that, for the first time, the name of the Kurdistan Folk Arts Troupe has been featured in the festival. He also provided an overview of Płock’s natural and economic characteristics, noting that the city is well-known for its mineral resources and oil industry.
The Mayor expressed his hope that relations between Płock and Erbil would see further progress in the future, particularly in areas of mutual interest. He noted that during his previous visit to Erbil, he sensed many commonalities between the Kurdish and Polish people, which made this meeting a priority for him.
In another part of his remarks, the Mayor highlighted the city's existing relations with major global cities, including those in the United States and China, emphasizing that Plock’s doors are open for cooperation and the development of ties. He expressed a desire for continued collaboration, specifically in the fields of culture, sports, arts, and the completion of higher education studies.
The Mayor also mentioned that various annual activities and festivals are held in the fields of art and sports, expressing his wish for Erbil’s institutions and artistic and athletic teams to participate in these events.
In conclusion, Sirwan Osman, Director General of Culture and Arts in Erbil, highlighted the ancient history of Erbil and its current status as a capital city.
Both he and the Mayor of Płock exchanged views on the importance of developing cultural and artistic relations and strengthening cooperation. They also discussed the "Sister Cities" concept between Erbil and Płock, reaffirming their commitment to continuing the steps necessary to achieve this partnership.
