Governor of Erbil Receives Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Erbil

On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, Omed Khoshnaw, the Governor of Erbil, received Faramarz Asadi, the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Erbil, at the governorate headquarters.

The meeting was attended by Hemin Qadir, Deputy Governor, and Shakir Hussein, Head of Relations between the Kurdistan Region and Iran.
 

During the meeting, the Iranian Consul General expressed his and his country’s gratitude and appreciation to President Barzani, the President of the Kurdistan Region, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, the Ministry of Interior, Erbil Governorate, and the Barzani Charity Foundation for their hospitality and generosity in welcoming Iranian pilgrims traveling through the Kurdistan Region to participate in the Arbaeen of Imam Hussein.
 

He noted that from the Haji Omeran border crossing to the Shirawa checkpoint, the final point within Erbil province, the pilgrims were received in the best possible manner, with all their needs met and all necessary facilities provided.
 

For his part, the Governor of Erbil thanked the Consul General and praised his role in strengthening bilateral relations. He reassured the delegation that, following the directives of President Barzani, the President of the Kurdistan Region, and the Prime Minister, great importance is placed annually on the arrival of pilgrims, and the provincial authorities remain at their service.

In conclusion, both sides emphasized the advancement of relations and the strengthening of coordination and cooperation between Erbil Governorate and the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Erbil.
