16th International Construction Fair Opens in Erbil
On Thursday, August 27, 2026, the 16th International Construction and Reconstruction Exhibition—one of the largest gatherings for the construction sector in Iraq and the region, was inaugurated at the Erbil International Fairground.
The opening ceremony was attended by Sasan Awni, Minister of Municipalities; Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil; Safeen Dizayee, Head of the KRG Department of Foreign Relations; Mohammed Shukri, Chairman of the Board of Investment; Aras Haso Mirkhan, Head of the Investment Department; Agrin Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Construction and Housing; Sarwar Hawari, Deputy Minister of Trade and industry; along with several other officials, businessmen, and investors.
In addition to local companies, major firms from Turkey, Iran, Arab countries, and Europe are participating in the exhibition. The event showcases the latest cable systems, transformers, and renewable energy technologies (particularly solar energy), as well as heavy machinery and vehicles for excavation, roadwork, and factories.
It also features modern designs, materials for service projects, and advanced building techniques. The primary goal of the fair is to attract further investment into the housing and industrial sectors of the Kurdistan Region.
It is noteworthy that the construction and development sector serves as a backbone of the Kurdistan Region’s economy, playing a vital role in job creation and market revitalization. As the capital of the Kurdistan Region, Erbil has undergone rapid architectural transformation over the past two decades, emerging as a leading city across Iraq and the wider region.
It has become a strategic hub for foreign companies looking to enter the regional and Iraqi markets. The exhibition comes at a time when the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), despite the financial challenges often facing large-scale projects, continues its efforts to modernize infrastructure and advance strategic housing and industrial developments by providing facilities and support for investors.
