Commemoration of Chaldean Martyrs' Day and the 57th Anniversary of the Soriya Village Massacre Held in Front of St. Joseph Church

Today, Wednesday, September 16, 2026, a significant number of government and political figures, religious leaders, Christian dignitaries, and residents of Ankawa took part in a commemoration marking Chaldean Martyrs' Day and the 57th anniversary of the massacre in the Chaldean village of Soriya.

The ceremony took place in front of St. Joseph Church in Erbil, where attendees honored the memory of the victims of that tragic historical event. A five-minute moment of silence was observed to pay tribute to the souls of the Chaldean martyrs and victims of the Soriya village massacre.
 

The wide participation in the event underscored the importance of preserving the memory and history of the diverse communities in the Kurdistan Region, while reaffirming the spirit of partnership, tolerance, and ethnic and religious coexistence in the capital, Erbil.
