Seven mine fields in Erbil governorate have been handed over to their owners after being cleared of mines and explosives
Today Wednesday, December 7, 2022. As part of clearing dangerous areas from mines and explosives, in the presence of Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, Massoud Karash, Deputy Governor, Hakim Tariq Haidari, Mayor of Koya and Hakim Tele, Deputy Chairman of Soran Independent Administration, Jabar Mustafa, Chairman of the Kurdistan Mine Action Agency, Ali Miran, Director General of Artistic Affairs, Ali Abdulrahman, Director General of Erbil Mine Affairs and Ms. Sabina Biber, Deputy ITF. Seven minefields were handed over to their owners in a ceremony in the village of Suse after being cleared of mines, explosives and war remnants with the support of the Slovenian International Organization (ITF). The minefields were located in Koya, Choman and Mergasur districts of Erbil governorate and Soran autonomous administration.
In the ceremony, the governor congratulated the owners of land in the three districts of Mergasur, Choman and Koya, hundreds of landmines have been cleared from their lands and their lands have been handed over today. He also thanked the people of Slovenia and the Slovenian International Organization (ITF) for their cooperation and coordination with the General Agency for Mine Affairs in clearing a large area of land contaminated with mine and explosive hazards, which is more than 100,000 square meters.
The governor also thanked the employees of the agency for clearing the mined fields.
It is worth mentioning that the demining teams of the General Directorate of Mine Affairs of Erbil have discovered and defused more than 600 mines and explosives in these mine fields with the support and assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia.

At the end of the ceremony, the land was handed over to the owners by the governor of Erbil and some of the participants.
