The first phase of the Erbil Efraz 3 water pipeline replacement project has started
On Sunday, December 11, 2022. Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw, accompanied by Massoud Karash, Deputy Governor and Ari Ahmad, Director General of Water and Sewerage, Zardasht Sarsam, Director of Water and Sewerage in Erbil and a number of other engineers and project supervisors, announced the first phase of the project to replace the water pipeline Efraz 3 in Erbil, which was approved by Prime Minister Mr. Masrour Barzani, will be implemented at a cost of (20 billion 842 million 500 thousand 600) dinars. The first phase of the project, which costs (4 billion 354 million 750 thousand) dinars, began today, which is to replace the pipeline in the Marouda central station with a length of 2750 meters with 1.5 meters of carbon steel pipeline to reach neighborhood 108 of Ankawa.
About that, Erbil governor announced to the media in a press conference: “Most of the drinking water in Erbil is supplied through the Efraz 3 pipeline and the pipeline is outdated. with the assistance of the Minister of Municipalities and Tourism, we asked the Council of Ministers to solve the problem and they allocated more than 20 billion dinars to replace the pipeline.". He also said: “ in the first phase of the project, an amount of f(our billion and 350 million) dinars has been spent, which includes the Marouda Central station to the 120-meter street , where 80% of the pipe breaks occur in this section, with the completion of the first phase, much of the problem will be solved.”.
He added that work on the first phase of the project to replace the pipeline Efraz 3 in Erbil began today and a deadline of 120 days, the project will be implemented by Awaz, a local company, and may be completed within less than 75 days.
The governor assured the citizens that during the implementation of the project, water will not be cut off from the citizens who are on Ifraz 3.
"The new pipeline will be installed next to the existing pipeline and may need to be closed for 48 hours and then we will notify the citizens of Erbil through the media," he said.
It’s worth mentioning, the Efraz 3 water pipeline is located in the north of Erbil and is made of fiberglass material and provides about 240 million liters of water daily to about 40% of the neighborhoods of Erbil. Like the neighborhoods of Zanko, Badawa, Farmanbaran, Iskan and several other neighborhoods, the pipeline that has been built for 15 years has broken and repaired several times so far, With the pipeline breaking, many of these neighborhoods are facing water shortages.
