On World Mother Language Day: The Prime Minister issues two decrees on the importance of the Kurdish language

Today, Tuesday, February 21, 2023, the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, issued two decrees regarding interest in the Kurdish language.

In the first decree, in order to pay attention to the Kurdish language as the mother tongue, "we directed both the Ministries of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Education, in coordination with the Kurdish Academy, experts and specialists in this field, to prepare an appropriate program to teach the Kurdish language to foreigners residing to work in the Kurdistan Region."

In the second decree, the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government directed all ministries based on the Law of Official Languages in the Kurdistan Region, with the aim of protecting the Kurdish language as the main language in the Kurdistan Region, by taking the necessary measures to write the Kurdish language on the boards in all governmental and non-governmental institutions and departments, and on the offices, representations and consulates of foreign countries, foreign organizations, companies and private sector institutions.

As stated in the decision of the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, attention should be paid to the Kurdish language in hotels, tourist facilities and restaurants, and that the Kurdish language should be present in menus, guides and instructions.
