Erbil…Reorganizing the streets and markets around the Citadel

The Kurdistan Regional Government is once again reorganizing the streets and markets around the Citadel to relieve traffic congestion and promote the beauty of Erbil Citadel's civilization as one of the world's oldest cities.

On Wednesday, February 22, 2023. Sasan Awni, Minister of Municipalities and Tourism, Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, and Dr. Sarbaz Najib, Advisor to the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, met to discuss the reorganization of the streets and shops surrounding the Citadel.

The plan includes preventing vehicular traffic in the streets surrounding the Citadel and reserving them for pedestrians, as well as reorganizing the municipality-owned shops to give them a more civilized appearance, paying more attention to the environment, and considering the health status of all groups

. "It was agreed during the meeting to discuss the observations received from the concerned authorities about this plan within a week to begin putting it into effect."
