The Governor of Erbil receives the President of the Kurdish Studies Institute in Berlin
Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, received today, Monday, May 22, 2023, at the governorate office, Dr. Fariad Fazil Omar, head of the Institute for Kurdish Studies in Berlin, who is regarded as a national and literary figure who has served the Kurdish language, literature, and history for more than a half-century and published dozens of books and works.
During the meeting, which was also attended by Erbil's Director General of Tourism, the Governor of Erbil complimented his literary and historical works, as well as his national efforts to promote Kurdish language and literature, "We consider it an achievement for our people that you received the competency award from the German president, an award in Erbil, and an honorary doctorate from Salahaddin University for your great services to the Kurdish language, literature, and history," he said.
During the meeting, they also discussed the activities of the Institute of Kurdish Studies in Berlin, the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government's decisions to protect the Kurdish language, and the Erbil Governorate's campaign to change the signs of restaurants, hotels, and public places to the Kurdish language, all of which they considered important steps to preserve the Kurdish language.
Dr. Fariad, for his part, thanked him for the hospitality and reception, and verified that the rewards and appreciations bestowed upon him were bestowed onto the entire Kurdish people, and it is a source of pride and joy that I was able to serve my people, even in such a basic way.
Dr. Fariad Fazil Omar is the head of the Institute of Kurdish Studies in Berlin, Germany, and a well-known Kurdish patriot who has contributed significantly to Kurdish literature, history, and language for more than a half-century. In both German and Kurdish, he has produced research on Kurdish history and language.
