Erbil and Nashville are now officially sister cities
On May 16, 2023, an Erbil Governor delegation led by Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, visited Nashville, USA, and held several important meetings with the Nashville City Council, the Mayor, and the Board of Sister Cities in order to promote and develop relations between the United States and the Kurdistan Region in the fields of (culture, economy, trade, and investment).
Then The Nashville Municipality sent a delegation led by Mayor John Cooper to Erbil on May 20, 2023, where they met with various officials and toured the city.
Today, the Nashville City Council unanimously endorsed the decision to make Erbil and Nashville sister cities.
Erbil is Nashville's tenth sister city worldwide and the first in the Middle East. Sisterhood between Erbil and Nashville will play a significant role in the development of relations (cultural, municipal, educational, health, artistic, and athletic) and other sectors between the two cities.
The sisterhood of Erbil and Nashville will benefit the first citizens while also elevating relations between the Kurdistan Region and the United States.
On this purpose, a delegation led by Erbil's governor will soon visit Nashville to sign an official memorandum of understanding between the two cities.
On this occasion, we would like to thank all those who have contributed to bringing together and designing the sister project between Erbil and Nashville, as well as the Kurdish Diaspora in Nashville, the Kurdistan Regional Government Representation in Washington, and the US Consulate in Erbil for their efforts and influential role, and American politicians friendly to Kurdistan, to create a sisterhood between Nashville and Erbil.
