The Governor of Erbil receives Sandra Lattouf, the new UNICEF Representative in Iraq
The Governor of Erbil, Omed Khoshnaw, received the new UNICEF representative in Iraq, Sandra Lattouf, and her accompanying delegation on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, in the governorate office.
During the meeting, the Governor of Erbil welcomed the guest delegation and congratulated Ms. Lattouf on her appointment as the new head of the UNICEF office in Iraq. He also noted that the Kurdistan Region in general and Erbil in particular have a long history of relations, cooperation, and coordination with UNICEF and the organization's work and activities in the region, and he expressed his hope that The visits of the UNICEF Representative in Iraq to Erbil would continue.
The governor of Erbil stated that the federal government does not look at Iraqis with a single eye and has violated many of the constitutional rights of the Kurdistan Region; therefore, we hope that UNICEF will focus all of its resources and activities on the Kurdistan Region and Erbil to make up for the deficit and alleviate the burden on our shoulders.
Khoshnaw concluded by expressing Erbil Governorate's willingness and support for any assistance or coordination with UNICEF and its activities and work within Erbil Governorate's borders.
Ms. Sandra Lattouf, the new UNICEF coordinator in Iraq, elaborated on the work agenda and agenda for UNICEF in Iraq and the Erbil office of UNICEF. She indicated that education, health, child protection, and water are their top priorities.
She communicated UNICEF's willingness to collaborate and coordinate with Erbil Governorate on any initiative within these sectors.
