Erbil potatoes are in demand from international brands

"International Brands Seek Erbil Potatoes as Demand Surges for Quality Products"

Potato, which is well-known for its nutritional benefits, has become a sought-after agricultural commodity, ranking fourth in global cultivation and yield behind wheat, rice, and corn. The Kurdistan Region has seen a tremendous increase in potato output in recent years, mainly to the determined efforts of local farmers and the implementation of strategic agricultural strategies.

Potato output has expanded significantly, according to the Erbil General Directorate of Agriculture. The rising demand for cultivated potatoes is mostly due to the higher quality of the crop. This spike in output has piqued the curiosity of worldwide brands, with multinationals such as McDonald's expressing interest in purchasing Erbil potatoes for their global markets.

Potato farming was identified as a strategic crop under the Kurdistan Region's Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources' five-year plan in 2009. Since then, the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources has been importing high-quality potato seeds from reputable sources such as the Netherlands and France, resulting in a significant rise in production and overall agricultural performance.
