Erbil: A meeting to discuss the issues facing the Kurdistan Region's health process in general, and Erbil in particular

Dr. Saman Barzanji, Minister of Health of the Kurdistan Regional Government, and Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, presided over the meeting, which was also attended by Dr. Dlovan, Director-General of Health, Dr. Kawa Khalil, Director-General of Health Affairs in the Ministry of Health, and Maaf Abdullah, Director-General of the Ministry of Health. It was held in the Ministry of Health's office, with a high-level delegation from Germany consisting of a team from the German Embassy and Consulate, as well as representatives from both organizations (UNDP and KFW).
The meeting's objective was to explore the issues that the Kurdistan Region and Erbil face in the health process.

The Minister of Health of the Kurdistan Regional Government welcomed the delegation and stated that the financial crisis has had a visible impact on the health sector in the Kurdistan Region, particularly in the provision of health teams and hospital equipment.

In addition, the Minister of Health emphasized the endeavors of the Kurdistan Regional Government to resolve all health sector issues.

The governor of Erbil, Omed Khoshnaw, then welcomed the delegation and congratulated them on the opening of the new UNDP office in Erbil. In his speech, he highlighted the primary topics of the meeting and urged the delegation to be more coordinated. He emphasized that addressing these issues would benefit the impoverished and disadvantaged citizens of Erbil. He also mentioned the endeavors of Erbil province to promote the city's health sector.
Governor of Erbil stated that he has collaborated with UNDP on multiple occasions in the field of solar-powered electricity production, citing the College of Engineering as an example. He urged sustained coordination on multiple levels.
Omed Khoshnaw emphasized that climate change, which the world is concerned about, has tangible consequences in Erbil. He requested that the UNDP support Erbil province in this regard, notably in the development of additional ponds and road assistance for the Erbil Joint disaster Coordination Directorate in the case of a climate-related disaster.

The Governor of Erbil stated his willingness to help the German and UNDP teams serve Erbil and lessen the impact of the conflict.
