Erbil.. Commemorating the memories of a Kurdish friend, Siegfried Martsch

On Saturday evening, September 2, 2023, Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw attended the memorial ceremony of Siegfried Martsch, also known as Sieg Barzani, who was one of the true friends of the Kurdish people.

Sieg Barzani provided substantial assistance and support to the people of Kurdistan in all fields, particularly after the 1991 uprising, where he provided humanitarian aid to the Kurdistan Region from the beginning of the uprising and technical assistance for the first parliamentary elections in Kurdistan in 1992. Out of affection and respect for the Kurdish people and President Masoud Barzani, he also adopted the name Sieg Barzani.

Siegfried Martsch, also known as Sieg Barzani, was a member of North Rhine-Westphalia Parliament from 1990 to 2000 and was among the politicians who frequently visited Kurdistan and resided in Erbil from 2004 to 2014. He founded the German Cultural Center. In addition, he was a fervent supporter of the 2017 Kurdistan referendum process and actively campaigned in numerous global centers.

Kurdistan lost a great and loyal friend on February 15, 2022, and his supportive and sincere attitudes toward the Kurdish people will live on in the hearts, minds, and spirits of all Kurds.
