A delegation from Erbil governorate arrives in the American city of Nashville to sign the twinning agreement

Today, Tuesday, September 5, 2023, Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw and his delegation arrived in Nashville, Tennessee, to join in the signing ceremony of the Erbil-Nashville twinning agreement. The Governor of Erbil and his accompanied delegation were received at the airport by Nashville Mayor John Cooper and a number of city council members.

The purpose of the multi-day visit is to execute the twinning agreement between Erbil and Nashville, which is scheduled to take place on September 9 in the presence of US State Department representatives and a number of US decision-makers.

The declaration of twinning between Erbil and Nashville was the result of 3 years of study, through successive visits conducted by delegations to the city of Nashville to see carefully the conditions of Erbil in all respects.

The most recent of these visits occurred on May 20, when Nashville Mayor John Cooper arrived in Erbil, accompanied by an official delegation, and confirmed that the Kurds are trusted partners for Washington.

Because of the huge number of Kurdish residents in Nashville, the city has been dubbed "Little Kurdistan," and officials in Erbil have expressed an interest in capitalizing on the city's rise. Nashville has already announced twinning with nine other cities; Erbil will be the only Middle Eastern city to publicize twinning with it.
