Baghdad… The fourth meeting of the Supreme Water Committee began with the presence of a delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government

Today, Monday, November 13, 2023, Federal Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani chaired the fourth meeting of the Supreme Water Committee, with the participation of the Kurdistan Regional Government delegation, which included the Governor of Erbil, Omed Khoshnaw, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources in the Kurdistan Region, Karim Suleiman, and the Director General of Water Resources in Ministry of Agriculture of the Region Dr. Karwan Hawrami”.

In accordance with the water quotas that had been approved for the governorates, the water situation was assessed and the implementation of the agricultural plan was evaluated throughout the meeting.

The projects proposed by the Governor of Erbil under the plans of the governorate and the Kurdistan Regional Government were also reviewed during the Federal Prime Minister's visit to Erbil last March, which dealt with climate change, flooding, and water security.

After reviewing the projects by the Governor of Erbil and his accompanying delegation, and taking the opinions of the members of the committee, which consisted of relevant ministers from the federal and regional governments, the submitted projects were unanimously approved and submitted to the Federal Council of Ministers to take the remaining measures.

It is hoped that the federal government will provide the necessary budget to implement the projects submitted soon, which amounts to 14 billion dinars.

Several other topics were discussed during the meeting, including the development of the environmental program, water conditions and water resources, and the creation of a fund to support research and initiatives to develop local water resources and address water scarcity and its effects in Iraq in general. The Chairman and committee members made decisions and recommendations.
