The governor of Erbil visited the prime minister of the Federal Republic of Iraq
Today, Monday, November 13, 2023, Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani at the office of the Council of Ministers.
In the meeting, the governor of Erbil conveyed the greetings of Mr. Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, to the Iraqi Prime Minister, discussed the service projects in Erbil province in general. The governor of Erbil then spoke about climate change and its effects, water shortages and groundwater depletion in Erbil province, and the projects that have been submitted to the Presidency of the Federal Iraqi Council of Ministers, as well as the solutions that have been implemented.
He added that, despite the circumstances, Erbil governorate and the Kurdistan Regional Government have carried out various projects on this topic, but that, sadly, due to the financial crisis, strategic issues have not been handled effectively, and only temporary solutions have been done.
The governor also reviewed the visit of an Erbil province delegation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, talks with senior Saudi officials, and the provision of Saudi loans to handle the problem of water scarcity, flood risks, and climate change.
In order to carry out many projects in this field, including the beginning of the development of Erbil's fourth Ifraz, which is a major project that would substantially end Erbil's water scarcity crisis.
The governor stated, "Fortunately, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has agreed to provide the loan to Erbil; all procedures have been completed, and a special letter is now in your office; all that remains is your consent to receive the loan."
For his part, the Iraqi Prime Minister, while greeting and respecting Mr. Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, assured him that he will help and collaborate in any manner and provide all facilities to tackle the difficulties mentioned.
