From the Stone Age to Modernity: Forthcoming book to explore Erbil’s history

On Wednesday, January 10, 2023, Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw met with a group of university and academic educators in Erbil to deliberate on a project aimed at producing a comprehensive book chronicling the history of Erbil.
This book will meticulously document historical developments, events, and transformations from the Stone Age to the present day.

During the meeting, the Governor commended the researchers for their dedication, assuring them of his support and readiness to provide resources for the project. Emphasizing Erbil's global historical significance, he noted that the city, as per various historical sources, stands as the world's oldest continuously inhabited city. The Governor expressed anticipation that the book would serve as a vital historical and scientific resource, shedding light on the lesser-known aspects of Erbil's history.

Funded by the governor, the book, covering Erbil's history from the Stone Age to the present, is slated for release in the middle of this year. Following its publication, a dedicated conference is planned for its evaluation. The book is expected to hold a prominent position in the scientific and historical realms, impacting the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider global community.
