Governor of Erbil: ensuring medical supplies, healthcare, and enhancing the health sector is a collective responsibility for everyone
Today, on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, Governor Omed Khoshnaw, alongside Deputy Governor Hemin Qadir, welcomed Dr. Saleh Mahdi Al-Hasnawi, the Minister of Health in the Federal Government, and Dr. Saman Barzanji, the Minister of Health in the Kurdistan Regional Government, at the governorate's office in Erbil.
During the meeting, the Iraqi Minister of Health affirmed that the purpose of the visit is to sustain coordination and provide support to the health sector, both in the Kurdistan Region overall and specifically in Erbil.
For his part, Erbil Governor, extended a warm welcome to the visiting delegation and expressed his best wishes for their successful visit to the Kurdistan Region. He conveyed gratitude to the Iraqi Minister of Health for ongoing cooperation and continuous health support to Erbil. The Governor emphasized the appreciation of both the governorate and the Kurdistan Regional Government for the Minister's stance, expressing hope for similar collaboration from the federal government and other ministries in Baghdad.
The Governor of Erbil reiterated that ensuring the availability of medical supplies, delivering healthcare, and enhancing the health sector and hospitals are shared responsibilities that stand above political conflicts and should be prioritized by all.
The Governor of Erbil urged the Iraqi Minister of Health to consider Erbil's unique circumstances by supplying medical resources and elevating hospital conditions. He highlighted that, beyond Erbil's residents, a substantial number of individuals from central and southern governorates of Iraq, as well as refugees and displaced persons, seek medical treatment in Erbil's hospitals.
