Erbil Governor receives Dr. Fariad Fazil Omar

On April 18, 2024, Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw received Dr. Faryad Fazil Omar, Kurdish academician and founder of the Kurdish Studies Institute in Berlin, Holder of the highest award of the President of Germany. Dr. Karzan Khwarahm, Advisor on Higher Education and Education of the Council of Ministers, and Diler Mohammed, Director General of Tourism in Erbil, were present at the meeting.
 

The governor of Erbil commended Dr. Faryad Fazil Omar's contributions to the preservation and promotion of Kurdish language, literature, and history among the Kurdish diaspora for over fifty years, praising his role, abilities, and skills in this field.
 

During his meeting with the governor of Erbil, Dr. Fariad Fazil reiterated his ongoing dedication to academic service and the promotion of Kurdish language and culture. He expressed gratitude to the Erbil Governorate and the General Directorate of Tourism for spearheading a national initiative to transition signage of tourist attractions, public spaces, and private sector establishments into Kurdish. This initiative, mandated by Mr. Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, underscores the importance of preserving Kurdish as the primary language in Kurdistan. Dr. Fazil emphasized the success of the campaign and described it as a crucial and significant step forward.
 

Finally, the Governor of Erbil was presented with the newly reformatted edition of "Kurdish Alphabet" for first-grade primary school students. This edition, authored by Ibrahim Amin Baldar and Dr. Faryad Fazil Omar, has been reprinted by the Kurdish Studies Institute in Berlin.
