Foundation Stone Laid for $440,000 Type B Health Center in Qushtapa district
On Thursday, May 9th, 2024, Dr. Saman Barzanji, the Minister of Health, and Omed Khoshnaw, the Governor of Erbil, alongside Sangar Kanabi, the Head of the 23rd Branch of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Karachugh, and the Head of UNHCR in Iraq, Mayor of Qushtaba district among other regional administrative and government officials, laid the foundation stone for a Type B health center project in Qushtapa district. This initiative, costing $440,000, will be initiated by UNHCR in collaboration with the General Directorate of Health in Erbil.
During the ceremony, the Governor of Erbil expressed his congratulations to the residents of the area and extended gratitude to the UNHCR for their contribution to the construction of the health center.
He highlighted that the initiative was made possible through the support of the Qushtapa Municipality. Additionally, the Governor expressed gratitude to the Barzani Charitable Foundation and the Erbil General Directorate of Health for their ongoing efforts in providing healthcare services, in collaboration with international organizations.
He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration and urged UNHCR to undertake further service projects to benefit both citizens and refugees in the camps of Erbil governorate.
The Governor reiterated the Kurdistan Regional Government's commitment to the principle of voluntary return for refugees, emphasizing that their aim is not to compel anyone to leave. He expressed hope for ongoing coordination and cooperation with the UN and other international organizations to support this endeavor.
It's worth noting that Qushtapa district already hosts two Type B and Type C health centers. However, due to the growing population of the district, the construction of this additional health center became necessary to meet the increasing demand for healthcare services.
