Erbil: Inauguration of the Migrant Resource Centre in the Kurdistan Region
Today, June 6, 2024, in the presence of Kurdistan Regional Government Interior Minister Rebar Ahmad, Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw, Head of Foreign Relations Department Safeen Dizayee and representatives of countries, agencies and international organizations, The inauguration of the Migrant resource Centre (Migrant Solution Center in collaboration with The Joint Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC) of the Kurdistan Regional Government, the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD)) was held.
With this step, the Kurdistan Region will become the ninth in the world to open such a center.
During the presentation, several speeches highlighted that the ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government has placed significant emphasis on addressing migration issues, facilitating the return of citizens from abroad, and reintegrating them into society. Emphasis was placed on preventing illegal immigration, spreading legal awareness, collaborating with universities, and raising the level of awareness among individuals in society. More than one million refugees and displaced persons have been sheltered in the Kurdistan Region. They have found jobs and livelihood opportunities across various parts of the region.
The danger of the Iraqi government's decision to close the humanitarian case and shut down the camps in the Kurdistan Region was highlighted. It was stated that this move is a concern for the Kurdistan Regional Government.
