The Governor of Erbil receives delegation from the French Consulate
Today, Monday, June 10, 2024, the Governor of Erbil, Omed Khoshnaw, received at the governorate’s office a delegation from the French Consulate General in Erbil, headed by Deputy Consul Rodolphe Richard, and his accompanying delegation.
The Governor of Erbil began the meeting by welcoming the delegation and commending the deep relations and strong friendship between the Kurdistan Region and France. He emphasized the robust coordination between the French Consulate General in Erbil and the governorate.
During the meeting, Dr. Niaz Taher, Director of the Governor’s Office, and Naz Jalal, Director of Immigration and Crisis Response in Erbil Governorate, were also in attendance. Coordination between the French government and the Kurdistan Regional Government was discussed to establish a strong civil defense system through the Directorate of Migration, Displacement, and Crisis Response in the Kurdistan Region and Erbil Governorate, as well as to develop the human capabilities of civil defense teams.
In this context, the Governor of Erbil expressed the governorate’s full support for the delegation of the French Consulate General in Erbil.
He noted the effects of climate change on the city, including the occurrence of fires and floods, and expressed his hope that the Kurdistan Region could benefit from French expertise in mitigating these effects.
The governor expressed his readiness to support beneficial projects proposed by countries and international humanitarian agencies, which will benefit the Kurdistan Region in general and the city of Erbil in particular. He highlighted the recent fires in national markets and the burning of farmers’ crops, attributing these incidents to climate change, high temperatures, and other factors. He emphasized the importance of having a strong and advanced defense system to confront these challenges.
