Declaration of the Peace and Cooperation Meeting Between Cities of the Middle East and North Africa in Istanbul

We, the representatives of cities and local governments, gathered in Istanbul to reaffirm our shared commitment to advancing peace, stability, and mutual prosperity in our region. Acknowledging our responsibility as city leaders to address related challenges such as poverty, conflict, displacement, and environmental threats,
Recognizing the rich heritage of the Middle East and North Africa in peace and prosperity, and knowing that it develops through the interconnection of cities, and reaffirming that no city can truly develop in isolation from its neighbors, Guided by the principles of inclusiveness, sustainable development, and shared prosperity,
Prioritizing the dignity and well-being of all citizens, especially those most affected, including displaced individuals who deserve to return home with dignity and opportunity,
We declare the following commitments to advance peace, resilience, and cooperation between cities as the main drivers of regional stability, prosperity, and urban development:
1. Continuing the dialogues initiated in Istanbul and establishing a unified solidarity network by inviting other cities in the region.
2. Developing local solutions to support post-war urban recovery, including facilitating the return of displaced individuals to their countries.
3. Promoting cross-border cultural and economic exchanges between cities to advance mutual understanding and growth.
4. Collaborating with international organizations to elevate the role of cities as key actors in peace-building and sustainable development on global platforms.
This declaration stands as evidence of our shared will to build resilient, inclusive, and peaceful cities and to expand our network of harmony and peace for future generations.
