President Barzani Receives Baghdad Governor

On Saturday, June 20, 2026, in Pirmam, President Masoud Barzani received His Excellency Atwan Al-Atwani, Governor of Baghdad, and an accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, the Governor of Baghdad and the accompanying delegation praised the struggle and sacrifices of the people of Kurdistan for achieving freedom.

They highly valued President Barzani's historical role in that long struggle, his efforts to build stability, harmony, and prosperity in the Kurdistan Region, and his role in building a new Iraq.

In the same meeting, President Barzani shed light on the struggle, sacrifices, and efforts of the people of Kurdistan in various stages, and also considered reconciliation, a culture of forgiveness, and harmony as the main foundations for the progress and prosperity of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

In another part of the meeting, views were exchanged regarding the Kurdistan Region's experience in development and efforts to improve the service situation and stability in Baghdad and other Iraqi provinces. President Barzani also reiterated his support for holding a conference of Iraqi governors in Erbil, which was proposed by the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, describing it as an important and positive step.
