The Governor of Erbil and Iranian Consul General in Erbil: Emphasized the importance of strengthening and further developing economic, trade, cultural, and heritage relations

Today, Thursday, March 13, 2025, Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, visited the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran, where he was received by Faramarz Asadi, Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Erbil.
 

In the meeting, which was attended by Shakir Hussein, Head of Relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Haji Ibrahim Gardi, Representative of the Erbil Chamber of Commerce and Industry, both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening and further developing the economic, trade, cultural, and traditional ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kurdistan Region.

 

Then, the Governor of Erbil congratulated the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran on assuming his position as Consul General and wished him success in his duties, expressing his readiness for all cooperation and coordination to ensure the success of his work. In return, the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran, while welcoming him, thanked the Governor of Erbil and the Erbil Governorate Administration for the relationship, coordination, cooperation, and facilities they have provided to his country's Consulate.
 

Later, focus was placed on the agreement between Erbil Governorate and West Azerbaijan Province (Urmia), and both sides expressed their satisfaction regarding the full implementation of all points in the agreement. Since its signing, most of the problems and obstacles that existed at both international gates (Tamarchin - Haji Omaran) over the past years have been resolved. Discussions also covered preparations for the Erbil Governor and his accompanying delegation's visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran and meetings with the three governors (West Azerbaijan, Kermanshah, and Sanandaj), as well as their participation in the expanded governors' meeting, which is scheduled to take place after the holy month of Ramadan.
 

In another part of the meeting, discussions focused on the trade movement and conditions between the Kurdistan Region and the Islamic Republic of Iran. In this regard, reference was made to merchants' issues concerning the import and transit of live animals, which has faced numerous obstacles due to an agreement between Baghdad and Tehran. For this purpose, the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasized resolving the issue as soon as possible.
 

Finally, the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Erbil thanked the Governor of Erbil for his visit and emphasized advancing coordination and cooperation between Erbil Governorate and the Iranian Consulate General in Erbil. He expressed readiness to provide all support and facilitation to strengthen relations and improve trade movement between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kurdistan Region.
