Paris to Name a Park and Street after "Peshmerga" and Erbil to Open "House of Paris”

Within the framework of his visit to Paris and for the purpose of participating in the Newroz celebration ceremony, today, Thursday, March 27, 2025, Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, visited the Paris City Hall and met with Anne Hidalgo, the Mayor of Paris.
 

During the meeting, the Governor of Erbil conveyed the greetings and respects of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani of the Kurdistan Regional Government. He also expressed gratitude to the government and people of France for their continued support of the Kurdistan Region, especially for standing by the people of Kurdistan during difficult times.

Both sides emphasized the advancement and strengthening of relations between Erbil and Paris, as well as the historic and friendly ties between France and the Kurdistan Region. They also discussed the memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the sister cities.

In another part of the meeting, discussions were held regarding the restoration process of Erbil Citadel and the allocation of a house within it, which will be introduced as the “Paris House.” This initiative was officially announced by the Mayor of Paris. Additionally, France highly values and honors the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces. To recognize their role, a park and a street in Paris will be named after the Peshmerga.
 

It was mentioned that the voting process within the Paris Municipality has been finalized. Both sides agreed that in the future, with the participation of officials from both the Kurdistan Region and France, an official inauguration ceremony will be held for the park and street.
 

In another part of the meeting, discussions were held regarding the preparations for the upcoming meeting of Francophone governors and mayors, which is set to take place in Vietnam in April this year. Regarding this, the Governor of Erbil expressed Erbil and the Kurdistan Region’s readiness to host the Francophone gathering next year in the capital, Erbil.
 

For her part, the Mayor of Paris expressed her hope happiness regarding the Governor of Erbil’s visit to Paris and his participation in the Newroz celebration ceremony. She also reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening relations with the capital, Erbil.
