Governor of Erbil and Governor of Tehran Meet for the First Time

On Monday, April 28, 2025, Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, and an accompanying delegation, as part of his visit to Tehran, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran, visited the Tehran Governorate and were received by Mohammad Sadegh Motamedian, the Governor of Tehran, and the Deputy Governor.
 

In the meeting, the Governor of Tehran, while welcoming, emphasized strengthening the relations between the two governorates and strengthening trade and economic activity between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kurdistan Region.

Also, he highlighted the cooperation and coordination of the Governor of Erbil and highly valued his role in advancing the trade and economic relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Then, regarding the visit of Iranian pilgrims to the holy sites in Iraq via the Kurdistan Region, he thanked the Governor of Erbil and the Kurdistan Regional Government for all the assistance and facilitation provided for their security, transportation, and stay in Erbil, the capital.
 

He also hoped that new understanding would be reached between Tehran, the capital, and Erbil, the capital, in order to further advance trade and industrial activity between the two governorates.

For his part, the Governor of Erbil, while reiterating the strengthening of relations and strengthening trade activity, expressed hope that, with his further cooperation and coordination, additional understandings and the establishment of necessary procedures and mechanisms for the trade and economic relations between Erbil and Tehran would witness further development. Also, he highly valued the role of the esteemed Governor of Tehran in advancing economic and industrial relations and trade between Erbil and West Azerbaijan. He said, "Our desire as Erbil, the capital, is to replicate that agreement and understanding with the Governorate of Tehran as well."
 

In the final part of their meeting, the Governor of Erbil formally invited the Governor of Tehran to visit Erbil, the capital. The Governor of Tehran accepted the invitation. The meeting concluded with an exchange of gifts between the two governors.
