First "Erbil Calligraphy and Ornamentation" Exhibition Opens

Monday, June 30, 2025, under the patronage of Omed Khoshnaw, the Governor of Erbil, the first exhibition for calligraphy and ornamentation was opened in a ceremony.

Titled "Erbil, the Citadel of Peace and Love," the event was organized by the Iraqi Cultural Center for Calligraphy and Ornamentation - Erbil Branch, featuring a number of calligraphers and ornamenters from Arab and Islamic countries, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region.

The opening ceremony, attended by the Director-General of Culture and Arts and a number of other artists, showcased 28 artistic panels by calligraphers from the cities of Baghdad, Mosul, Kirkuk, Sulaimani, as well as other Arab and Islamic countries. The Governor of Erbil congratulated the organizers and supervisors of the festival and wished them success.

He also highlighted the art of calligraphy and ornamentation in the Middle East and Islamic countries, noting its great history and its treatment as a civilizational heritage. He added that the Kurdish people have also had a share in this great art, with dozens and hundreds of talented calligraphers who have become a source of pride for our people. He then presented special awards and honors to the exhibition's participants.

It is worth mentioning that most of the artworks in the festival reflected the literary character and the refined taste of ancient Middle Eastern culture, in addition to showcasing the dexterity, artistic talent, and authentic penmanship of the participants.
