Tribute Paid to Prominent Kurdish Scholar Reshad Miran
Today, Tuesday, December 23, 2025, in the presence of Dr. Pishtiwan Sadiq, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, Ahmad Kani, Head of the Studies and Development Department of the KDP, Dr. Amir Chali, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Dr. Kameran Younis, President of Salahaddin University, and a number of other deans and university lecturers, a tribute was paid to the prominent Kurdish scholar "Dr. Reshad Miran" in the Salahaddin University Cultural Center hall. This was in recognition of his reception of the international (Pushkin) Award, making him the first Kurd to win this award in Russia.
During the ceremony, alongside congratulations, his achievement was described as great and a source of pride for all Kurdistan, and it was noted that these achievements are a true example of continuous scientific effort and research that further introduces Kurdish identity, history, and culture at an international level.
It is worth mentioning that the (Pushkin) Award is one of Russia's highest official awards, presented by the President of the country to talented individuals who have made significant and impactful contributions in the fields of culture, science, art, and human development. Dr. Reshad Miran, a sociologist and a talented scholar in Kurdish ethnography, was born in Shaqlawa in 1952. He obtained his Bachelor's degree from Baghdad University and his Master's and Doctorate degrees in Ethnography from Leningrad (Russia). Over 28 years (1993-2021), he was a lecturer in the Sociology Department at the College of Arts, Salahaddin University, and has published more than 30 books, scientific research papers, and translations. He was a founding member of the Association of Kurdish Sociologists and Deputy Head of the Kurdish Academy.
