Erbil Sets World Record for Largest Doner Kebab Skewer

On Thursday evening, May 28, 2026, Omed Khoshnaw, the Governor of Erbil, attended the official recording of a new world record for creating the largest doner kebab skewer globally, which officially entered the Guinness World Records.
This achievement was accomplished by Azadi Doner Kebab, which prepared a doner kebab skewer weighing two tons, six hundred and seventy-two kilograms. With this, Erbil managed to break the world record previously held by a Turkish restaurant.
 

After the doner kebab was cooked, with the help of the Kurdistan Humanitarian Hand organization, over 4,000 doner kebabs were distributed as donations to service institutions, orphanages, and psychiatric hospitals.
 

For his part, the Governor of Erbil expressed his delight at setting this new record and congratulated the organizers. He encouraged innovators to create more, especially in the capital of the Kurdistan Region, which continuously provides a fertile ground for such endeavors.
