After the floods caused by heavy rains in Erbil last year, on the recommendation and order of Mr. Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Erbil governorate in addition to holding a conference on preventing the recurrence of the disaster and floods It can be said that in the past 15 years, such work has not been done to clean the waterways in Erbil governorate, as follows: -

- Cornish Canal has been cleaned from the beginning to the end and the cleaning process continues today and all the obstacles that were created in it and caused flooding will be removed.

- Through tendering, two strong bridges will be built in place of these barriers, which are a very good solution to prevent floods.

- At the end of the Roshnbery neighborhood in Daratu, work is now being done on a two-sided street and this street will be completed soon.

- In New Erbil neighborhood, the teams of the Irrigation Directorate are cleaning the village through several tenders, which will eliminate any problems in the corners and the risk of flooding in the street is not like last year, because everything is cleaned.

- Hiran City and its surroundings, which were flooded last year, are now being built a new channel and the water goes to Bnaslawa  and then to Kornish, which will eliminate the risk of flooding in the area this year. So far, 85% of the project has been completed.

-The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) at a cost of 8 billion dinars, has decided to clean the roads around the 150-meter road, which caused problems last year. The teams are working continuously in Grdjutiar and the canals have been cleaned in Bnaslawa.


- In the center of Erbil, most of the manholes, under bridges, water networks and bridges have been cleaned through all six municipalities and environmental directorates. The cleaning process continues.

- A water collection pond will be constructed in the upper part of Daratu district, to collect water for agricultural and tourism work, and the water of the paths that become the source of floods.

These are all part of the work done by the Erbil governorate to deal with the floods and the cleaning process continues.
