A delegation from the European Parliament is visiting the Kurdistan Region
The Kurdistan Regional Government Representative to the European Union (EU) says that a delegation of the European Parliament will visit the Kurdistan Region in March this year in order to learn about the situation in the region and further cooperation and deepening relations with the Kurdistan Region.
Kurdistan Regional Government Representative to the European Union (EU), Dr. Dilawar Khalid Azhgayi said that a delegation of the European Parliament is scheduled to visit the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and Mosul city in mid-March this year, they are the President, Vice-Presidents and members of the European Parliament's Committee on Relations with the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, which is an official committee in the European Parliament.
Regarding the purpose of the visit, the Kurdistan Regional Government's representative to the European Union said: “the committee will stay for several days, to be aware of the situation in the region and the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, also the progress made in terms of security and relations with the European Union, to see how they can cooperate and strengthen relations and further assistance to the Kurdistan Region and deepen relations.”
Dr. Dilawar Azhgayi added: “The delegation will prepare a report and submit it to the Presidency of the European Parliament, the European Commission and its parties on the visit, which includes the parliaments of 27 member states.”
Azhgayi also said: “In the past, the European Parliament has had very good relations with the Kurdistan Region, especially through representation, and in sensitive times they have supported the Kurdistan Region, especially in the fight against ISIS terrorists and helping the Peshmerga. However, they have previously called on Iraq to implement the constitution, establish democracy and not violate human rights for stability in Iraq. In addition, many MEPs are sympathetic to the Kurdish cause and have supported the Kurdistan Region in political events.”
