The Prime Minister Lays the Foundation Stone for Groundbreaking Drug Rehabilitation Center

Today Tuesday, November 26, 2024. Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani laid the foundation stone for Groundbreaking Drug Rehabilitation Center in Erbil. The pioneering facility, a joint initiative between the Barzani Charity Foundation and LDS organization, marks a significant milestone in the region's healthcare infrastructure.

In a speech during the ceremony, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of this project in combating drugs, expressing his hope for its completion on schedule. He extended his gratitude to the LDS organization for its ongoing partnership with the Barzani Charity Foundation over the past ten years.

The Prime Minister described the issue of drugs as a serious threat targeting the security and stability of society. He also stated that the government is working intensively on all levels to eradicate this dangerous phenomenon that negatively impacts various aspects of life.

He also affirmed the formation of a high-level committee to combat drugs, comprising several ministries and relevant entities, in addition to establishing a fund for the rehabilitation, treatment, and development of addicts. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to address addiction issues and raise community awareness about its dangers and destructive effects.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of considering a key point in combating drugs: while drug mafias and dealers should be confronted with the harshest measures and subjected to the severest punishments, a distinction must be made between these criminals and those who have fallen victim to this scourge and become addicted.

He praised the efforts of the security forces in combating drugs, noting the increasing spread of this phenomenon and the success of the forces in arresting drug dealers on a daily basis. He expressed concern about this issue becoming a recurring topic in the media, reflecting its growing severity.

He also called on the federal government to take stricter measures against drug dealers who destroy lives and tear families apart. He stressed the importance of taking strong legal steps to combat this phenomenon, emphasizing that there should be no leniency or tolerance for these criminals under any circumstances, and that they must be confronted with determination to protect society.

He added that the relevant authorities must intensify their efforts to develop specialized centers for the rehabilitation of addicts, reiterating the importance of distinguishing between criminals and drug dealers and those who have fallen into addiction. He emphasized the need to help addicts regain their normal lives.

The Prime Minister explained that combating drugs is a national and moral duty that requires the cooperation of all segments of society, including families, educational institutions, academics, intellectuals, religious leaders, and media outlets. This collective effort is essential to support the government’s efforts in raising awareness about the dangers of this phenomenon, especially among the youth.
