 Erbil… A Wall Mural Highlighting the 16-Day Campaign Against Gender-Based Violence

Today, Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Hemin Qadir, Deputy Governor of Erbil, accompanied by the British Consul in Erbil, Dr. Idris Herki, President of Erbil Polytechnic University, and several university professors, unveiled a mural in front of the Polytechnic University campus. The event marked the 16-day campaign against gender-based violence and symbolized the commitment to raising awareness about women’s rights and addressing issues of violence against women.
The activity, organized by the British Consulate in Erbil, featured a symbolic depiction on the mural emphasizing the importance of defending women’s rights and drawing attention to the campaign’s objectives during these 16 days.
 

During the event, the Deputy Governor of Erbil reiterated the significance of empowering women and promoting equality, emphasizing that equal consideration of men and women’s roles and rights is a fundamental responsibility of the government. He noted that in Erbil, efforts to support such initiatives remain a priority. He also stressed the need for legal measures to prevent any unacceptable or uncivilized behaviors, ensuring the protection of women’s rights.
