Istanbul... The first session of the meeting of Mayors for Peace and Cooperation in the Middle East and North Africa
Today, Friday December 13, 2024, with the presence of Omed Khoshnaw, the Governor of Erbil, the first session of the Governors and Mayors meeting for Peace and Cooperation in the Middle East and North Africa began in Istanbul.
At the beginning, Ekrem İmamoglu, the Mayor of Istanbul, delivered a speech warmly welcoming the participants of the meeting, emphasizing the importance of the gathering which, besides cities getting to know each other, will discuss the general situation in the region, changes in the Middle East, and urban development by local governments. Afterwards, with the participation of governors and mayors from the Middle East and North Africa, the agenda of the first session began, which was dedicated to "The Role of Cities in Building Peace: Opportunities and Challenges." On this topic, presentations were delivered by the mayors of Baghdad and Ramallah, the deputy mayor of Isfahan, and the deputy secretary-general of IMM (Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality). Following the presentations, representatives from various cities participated in discussions and exchanged their views on the subject.
