A broad meeting was held under the supervision of the Governor of Erbil and the Governor of Zanjan
On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, under the supervision of Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, and Seyed Mohsen Sadeghi, Governor of Zanjan, a broad meeting was held at the Zanjan Governorate headquarters.
The meeting was attended by the Head of the Kurdistan Region's Foreign Relations with Iran; the Deputy Governor of Zanjan for Economic Affairs; the Head of the office of the Iranian Ministry of Interior; the Director of the Haji Omaran International Border Crossing; the Director of Reconstruction, the Director of Humanitarian Affairs, and the Director of Economic Affairs of Zanjan Governorate; and the Representative of the city's Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The purpose of the meeting was to strengthen general relations between the two sides, enhance trade and economic activity between Erbil and Zanjan, reach agreements, sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), and establish the necessary procedures, mechanisms, facilitation, and cooperation between both parties.
In the meeting, after the Governor of Zanjan presented a summary of the city's industrial, agricultural, engineering, and service projects and activities, both sides emphasized advancing, improving, and strengthening trade and industrial activity across all sectors, and developing relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
For his part, the Governor of Erbil, while thanking the Governor of Zanjan for the welcome, referred to his visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran. He spoke about their meetings, discussions, and participation in the Iran Expo 2025 exhibition, stating, 'In all our meetings and discussions, we have emphasized the development of the historical relations between the Kurdistan Region and Iran.' He also expressed his full readiness to advance relations and improve trade and industrial activity between Zanjan and Erbil across all sectors.
He also stated that the Kurdistan Region maintains historical and cultural ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran at all levels, particularly the highest ones. He added that, within the framework of these diplomatic and political relations, we started in West Azerbaijan Province and aim to develop these relations with other Iranian cities as well.
He added, 'Today marks our first meeting with you, but it is our wish that following these discussions, the understanding and agreement between us will be further developed, and our relations across all levels and sectors will see greater advancement.'
In another part of the meeting, the Governor of Erbil presented a summary of the progress and development that has taken place in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region. He declared that regarding Erbil, the capital – now a center of decision-making and a significant economic hub – their desire is to further enhance relations with all countries, particularly with Iran.
He also highlighted the visits of Iranian pilgrims to holy sites in Iraq via the Haji Omaran international border crossing, and emphasized President Barzani's directive that all facilitation and services be provided to the pilgrims, as these dear visitors travel through our land to visit the holy religious sites in Iraq.
