Sanandaj.. Agreement Signed on Day Two of Third Joint Meeting of KRG, Iran Border Provinces
On Wednesday, May 21, 2023, the second day of the third joint meeting of the border provinces of the Kurdistan Region and the Islamic Republic of Iran continued. The meeting, held to strengthen economic and commercial relations and further boost trade movement between Iran and the Kurdistan Region, was attended by the Kurdistan Region delegation headed by Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, and the Governors of Duhok, Sulaymaniyah, and Halabja, along with the Islamic Republic of Iran delegation headed by Arash Zarehtan Lahoni, Governor of Kurdistan, and the Governors of Kermanshah and West Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, which was attended by the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Erbil, the Director General of Region-Iran Relations, the heads of the Chambers of Commerce, representatives from the Iranian Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs, and a number of other high-ranking officials from the Islamic Republic of Iran, an agreement was signed between all seven provinces. In addition to emphasizing the advancement, improvement, and strengthening of trade and economic movement, this agreement is aimed at further advancing trade movement at the border crossings between the two sides and resolving any existing shortcomings, issues, and problems.
In a joint press conference, both sides described the meeting as important and emphasized the strengthening of general relations and the boosting of trade and economic activity between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kurdistan Region.
In this regard, Omed Khoshnaw, the head of the Kurdistan Regional Government delegation, stated that their meeting's discussions regarding the development of relations have produced good outcomes. He also outlined the desire and strategy of the Regional Government for further developing relations across all levels.
He stated, "We hope this meeting and our future meetings with each other will be of greater benefit to both of us."
Then, Arash Zarehtan Lahoni, the head of the Iranian delegation, praised and thanked the governors of the Kurdistan Region for all the help and facilities they have offered in various fields. He also expressed his hope that the Sanandaj meeting would serve as a good start and opening for greater proximity between the border cities of the Kurdistan Region and the Islamic Republic of
