Kurdistan Region President Meets with Şırnak Governor and Accompanying Delegation

On Monday evening, October 13, 2025, His Excellency Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, received His Excellency Birol Ekici, Governor of Şırnak, Turkey, and an accompanying delegation consisting of the Mayor of Şırnak, the President of the Şırnak Chamber of Commerce, and the President of the Cizre Chamber of Commerce.

In a meeting attended by the Governor of Erbil and the Consul General of Turkey in the Kurdistan Region, discussions focused on Turkey's relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, commercial exchange, and ways to promote economic, academic, and cultural activities between them.
 

Both sides emphasized their mutual desire to further enhance joint cooperation and expand trade, transportation, and tourism between the Kurdistan Region and Turkey.
 

In this regard, the level of relations between Şırnak and Erbil and other provinces of the Kurdistan Region was discussed. The impact of the peace process on the region's development and Şırnak Airport, which serves tourists from the Kurdistan Region due to its proximity to the border, were also other aspects of the meeting.
