Twelfth International Marathon Held with Participation of Governor and Thousands of Local and Foreign Runners

On Friday, October 31, 2025, with the participation of Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, and thousands of other local and foreign runners, the twelfth Erbil International Marathon was held in the capital of the Kurdistan Region under the slogan "A Day for Everyone," organized by the Erbil Marathon Organization for Sports and Peace. Annually, the Erbil International Marathon is widely held in Erbil.
 

Today, the twelfth Erbil International Marathon began on 3 different levels, as follows:

1. The 42-kilometer marathon, known as the long-distance marathon, started this morning with a global standard, with only real athletes and experienced marathon runners participating, numbering approximately 400 competitors and athletes.

2. Many well-known athletes from both inside and outside the country participated in the 42-kilometer marathon and circled Erbil's 60-meter road four times.

3. The 12-kilometer marathon, which involves one lap around the 60-meter road, was held simultaneously with a 2-kilometer marathon, which was primarily for children and families.

It is worth noting that the purpose of the run is to raise citizens' awareness for keeping the city of Erbil clean. This is while the Erbil International Marathon is held annually with the participation of thousands of local and foreign runners in Erbil, and a very large number of local and foreign athletes participate in it. The first to fifth winners at the boys' and girls' levels are awarded prizes.
