In an Official Letter Sent to the Governor of Erbil, the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF) Strongly Condemns the Attacks on Erbil and Expresses Solidarity with the City's Residents
The International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF), concerning the unjust attacks carried out by outlawed groups and terrorists on Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, which is a member of this international association through its sister city relationship with Paris, the capital of France, has sent an official letter to the Governor of Erbil.
In the letter, while expressing full solidarity and support for the city's resilient residents, it strongly condemns these attacks that target the region's peace and stability.
It emphasizes the need to protect civilian lives and calls on all parties to respect international laws and humanitarian principles and adhere to the protection of citizens' lives.
This is the text of the statement:
The International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF) expresses its solidarity with civilian populations regarding the situation in the Near and Middle East. Military attacks in the Near and Middle East are now heavily impacting populations, especially women and children, who pay a heavy price for conflicts that largely have nothing to do with them.
The International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF) expresses its deep solidarity with civilian populations, particularly in cities that are members of the association in Lebanon, the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and its capital Erbil. These attacks on cities in Lebanon and Erbil and their surroundings have resulted in losses and injuries among the population and the displacement of others, which has a very negative impact on the economic and social stability of these areas.
In this distressing situation, the International Association of Francophone Mayors stands with its members, including the mayors, representatives, and officials of these cities, and strongly condemns all violence targeting citizens. The association calls on all parties to respect international laws and humanitarian principles and adhere to the protection of citizens' lives.
