Erbil Governor Receives Najaf Governor

Today, Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Omed Khoshnaw, the Governor of Erbil, accompanied by Hemin Qadir, Deputy Governor, received Mr. Yousef Makki al-Ghannawi, the Governor of Najaf, and a high-level accompanying delegation at the Governor's office. The delegation included members of the Najaf Provincial Council and administrative officials from the region.

During the meeting, the Governor of Erbil, while warmly welcoming the delegation, expressed the full readiness of Erbil Governorate to develop cooperation and coordination between them in various fields. He emphasized the importance of strengthening relations, encouraging trade exchange, and developing different sectors.

For his part, the Governor of Najaf explained the purpose of their visit to the capital of the Kurdistan Region. In addition to expressing his deep admiration for the great progress and urban development achieved in the capital Erbil, he stated that they wish to benefit from the reform process and the successful experience of the Kurdistan Regional Government, especially in the urban planning, investment, and infrastructure development sectors. He also stressed the importance of exchanging investment projects and activating the role of the private sector between the two provinces.

In another part of the meeting, the Governor of Najaf officially invited the Governor of Erbil to visit Najaf city, with the aim of closely observing business opportunities and strengthening relations.

For his part, the Governor of Erbil gladly accepted the invitation.

At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed to continue discussions and form joint technical teams, with the aim of formulating a roadmap for administrative and economic cooperation that will serve the public interest of the citizens of both provinces.
