Erbil Governor, Accompanied by Baghdad Governor, Visits Erbil Citadel, Qaysari Bazaar, and Machko Teahouse
On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, accompanied by Atwan al-Atwani, Governor of Baghdad, and their accompanying delegation, paid a field visit to the ancient Erbil Citadel. There, they were received by Falah Hassan, Chairman of the High Commission for the Citadel's Restoration.
During the visit, a comprehensive explanation was provided regarding the history of the Citadel, its various stages of construction, and its historical and civilizational importance. Reference was also made to the changes and renovations carried out in recent years to preserve and strengthen the historical site. At the same time, the historical value of Erbil Citadel was emphasized. Later, the delegation visited Erbil's Qaysari Bazaar and Machko Teahouse.
During this visit, they gained close knowledge of the conditions of these places and highlighted the importance of preserving and developing their historical and cultural sites. They also discussed the importance of cooperation and exchange of experiences between the governorates to support the development of tourism and services.
The Governor of Erbil pointed out that preserving historical heritage and introducing it to visitors and tourists is one of the main objectives of the Kurdistan Regional Government and Erbil Governorate.
At the end of the visit, the guests expressed their satisfaction with the level of development and attention given to Erbil's historical and tourist sites, and the continuation of cooperation between Erbil and Baghdad Governorates was emphasized.
