Erbil... Statue of General "Charles de Gaulle" Unveiled
On Thursday evening, June 18, 2026, in a ceremony attended by His Excellency Sidad Barzani, representative of President "Masoud Barzani," representatives of Kurdish political parties and factions, and consuls and envoys from various countries, the statue of the renowned French President and General "Charles de Gaulle" was unveiled.
During the ceremony, historical milestones of this leader's life and his long-standing relationship with the Kurdish national leader "the immortal Barzani" and the liberation movement of the people of Kurdistan were highlighted.
The important and historic letter that our national leader "the immortal Mustafa Barzani" sent to General de Gaulle in 1968 was also brought into focus, and that history was honored.
This step was considered a new phase in strengthening the cultural and diplomatic relations between the Kurdistan Region and the French Republic, which has always been a supporter of the legitimate rights of the people of Kurdistan.
It is worth noting that this initiative was organized by the Rwanga Foundation in coordination with the French Consulate General and the French Institute in Erbil.
