Khabat District
The District of Khabat is composed of three Sub-Districts: Rizgary, Kewrgosk, and Darashekran. The District lies in the West of the city of Erbil and on the main road between Erbil and Mosul. The District is 37km from Erbil city. Khabat town is considered the gate that links the Governorates of Nineva and Duhok to Erbil Governorate. The District lies on the Great Zab River, which is an important agricultural region, containing the greatest irrigation projects, in addition to dense forests, especially along the riverside. Consequently, it succeeded in attracting summer vacationists in certain seasons. 64 villages are dependent of the District. At the boundaries of Khabat region, there many important industrial and economic projects, namely an oil refinery, Ifraz Water Project that ensures drinking water supply to the majority of Erbil’s inhabitants, iron factories; gaseous drinks factories, oil tanks, confectioneries, etc.In Khabat, there is an old bridge on the Greater Zab River, linking Khabat town to the Sub-District of Kelek, going back in history to the Ottoman epoch, and giving the town a historic touch.
